SRINAGAR: In the wake of recent cross-border shelling, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted an extensive visit to the border areas in the Nowshera subdivision of Rajouri district.

During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister inspected damaged houses, assessed losses caused by the shelling, and met with affected families. He also interacted with residents at various locations along the border.
He assured the residents that the government stands firmly with them in this hour of need and is actively mobilising resources to ensure they do not face further hardship. He emphasised that the safety of every resident living near the Line of Control is the government’s topmost priority and that the best possible measures are being taken in this regard.
Several delegations met the Deputy Chief Minister at different locations, raising concerns about the construction of individual and community bunkers, compensation for damages during recent shelling, water scarcity, unscheduled power cuts, and the condition of link roads.
The Deputy Chief Minister issued on-the-spot instructions to concerned officials to address these issues and assured residents that other genuine grievances would be resolved in a phased manner.
To safeguard lives and livelihoods, he further assured that additional individual and community bunkers would be constructed at strategic locations based on identified requirements. He stated that these bunkers are a vital part of the administration’s strategy for protecting border populations during incidents of cross-border shelling.
The visit reinforced the government’s commitment to the safety, security, and welfare of those living in the border areas.
Among others, the Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Nowshera Pritam Lal Thapa and other district and sectoral officers.
