Omar Qayoom, a city teenager who was killed during 2010 agitation, was remembered today on his 5th death anniversary.
Omar, who was a resident of Soura, was killed after being allegedly beaten by police in custody. The medical reports also mentioned beating as the reason for his death. However, the police have so far denied that he died due to beating. The teenager remained in hospital for few days after being released by police and breathed his last on this day of 2010.
Meanwhile, pro-freedom leaders from various groups including Hurriyat (g), JKLF and Islamic Students League (ISL) today paid tributes to the slain at a commemoration gathering in Soura. Besides leaders, the parents of slain teenagers and locals also attended the gathering.
The leaders, on the occasion, paid rich tributes to all the martyrs particularly to the slain teenagers of 2010. They vowed to carry on the struggle to its logical end. (GNS)
