Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is in Srinagar to monitor the restoration of important public services hit by heavy snowfall in the Valley, Thursday reviewed the pace on progress of restoration operation of affected services in South Kashmir which witnessed heaviest snowfall.

In a video conference with the District Development Commissioners and senior officers of Pulwama, Islamabad, Kulgam and Shopian Districts this morning, the Chief Minister enquired of the restoration status of power and water supply, road clearance, distribution and availability of essential commodities and fuel, functioning of hospitals, plying of traffic on various routes and other related matters.

The District Development Commissioners briefed the Chief Minister on all aspects of the restoration operations and said that there is sufficient stock of essential commodities and fuel including LPG in all the districts and strict vigil has been focused on supply and distribution of essentials. They said that market vigil has also been intensified and hoarders and unscrupulous elements warned of severe action if found indulging in black-marketing, hoarding and creating difficulties for people.

The Chief Minister was told that maximum restoration work has already been achieved and the rest is attended on war-footing. The District Development Commissioners also briefed the Chief Minister about the development scenario in their districts and highlighted some issues pertaining to the 4-laning of National Highway, replacement of transformers, and establishment of fruit mandies and construction of roads including the Rs. 5 crore Pulwama Circular Road.

While talking to the District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, the Chief Minister directed him to upgrade the process of de-watering in the water logged areas of Srinagar putting in place additional pumps and machinery wherever needed.

The Chief Minister asked the officers to be alert and responsive to the public needs in the present hour of challenge as also fully prepared for any future eventuality of this and other natures.
