SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said his government and the National Conference (NC) would continue their campaign for the restoration of statehood until it is achieved.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing relief and rehabilitation measures in flood-affected Rajouri district, Abdullah said the demand for restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood would remain a priority.
Asked whether the party would intensify its efforts after demonstrations held across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday in support of statehood, he replied, “We will continue our efforts until statehood is restored.”
His remarks come after the National Conference organised a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi last month, led by Omar Abdullah and party president Farooq Abdullah, pressing for the restoration of statehood and constitutional rights for Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into two Union Territories following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The National Conference has repeatedly maintained that restoring full statehood remains one of its central political commitments.
