Chief Minister and National Conference working President Omar Abdullah while condemning the incident of firing by security forces in Chattergam has called the Defense Minister, Arun Jaitley and asked for an immediate, transparent and time-bound probe into this incident.
Omar while speaking to the Defense Minister said that such incidents have no place in an otherwise improving security environment and serve as severe blows to the holistic efforts of sustainable peace and reconciliation in the State. “Justice in these cases should be swift and effective so that there is no cynicism in the minds of the people when it comes to their faith in the institutions of justice,” he said in a statement to KNS.
While speaking to the Defense Minister, Omar also said that these deaths have served to vitiate the poll atmosphere already strained by the post flood reconstruction challenge that people face. He said that the Defense Minister assured a time bound transparent inquiry in to the incident to ensure action follows if wrong doing is established.
