SRINAGAR: Two residential houses besides a shop were completely gutted in a blaze in Ashtangoo area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district during intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said here.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire which broke out from one of houses and later spread in no time resulting in damage to at two residential houses and a bakery shop.

An official said that the Fire and Emergency department managed to bring the raging fire under control after intense efforts.

“Unfortunately, before it was contained, the fire had already devastated several residential houses and two shops owned by Mohd Sultan Ganie and Gulam Mohd Ganie, leaving them reduced to ashes,” he said.

“Despite the valiant efforts of locals who rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames, the damage was extensive,” the official said, adding that the cause of the fire could not be immediately determined.
