SRINAGAR: A 22-year-old non-local resident was killed while two others were injured after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident at Chanderkot area in Ramban district.

Six persons who were also travelling in the vehicle are still missing, officials said.

Officials told that a vehicle (Innova) bearing registration number HR55J-1678 met with an accident at Duggi Pulli in Chanderkot.

They said a rescue operation was launched by Police and QRT at the spot, saying that one person has died while two were injured in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Rashid Ahmad, 22, while injured Muhammad Asif, 28 and Bilal Ahmad, 25—all residents of Bijnore Uttar Pradesh.

They said six travellers are still missing and a rescue operation is on to trace them, adding that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban and Superintendent of Police are on the spot. (KNO)

Later in the evening the DIPR issued the following statement:

“District Administration, Ramban has launched a search and rescue operation for passengers missing in a tragic road accident, which took place in Chanderkote area, this morning.

After receiving information of the accident, Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam; Senior Superintendent of Police, PD Nitya; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal; Additional SP, Rajni Sharma, along with Police, QRT and SDRF teams rushed to the spot.

The DC immediately called divers from the Army and started the rescue operation.

As per reports, a passenger cab, on way to Jammu from Kashmir, skidded off the road and rolled down into river Chenab near Duggi Pulli at Chanderkot in wee hours.

As per police, 1 person lost his life, 2 sustained injuries and 6 people are missing in the road accidents.  Two injured persons are under treatment in District Hospital Ramban, while the operation to rescue the missing persons was on till last reports.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the hospital administration to extend best-possible treatment to those injured in the accident and provide specialized treatment to those injured seriously.”
