One person died and six others were injured in different road accidents while police held drug peddlers in South Kashmir, police said Wednesday evening.

In Kargil, a Tata mobile bearing registration number JKO7/4169 hit and injured a child near Flopora Drass. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

In Islamabad, a load carrier bearing registration number JKO3D/8280 and an Innova car bearing registration number JKO15/3012 collided with at Pazalpora Bijbehara, resulting in injuries to Iqra Jan resident of Safakadal, Abdul Rashid Bhat resident of Hyderpora and Farooq Ahmad Reshi resident of Batamaloo, Srinagar. All the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.

In Kupwara, Tata sumo bear registration numbers JKO9/2559, JKO5B/79238 and a motorcycle bearing registration number JKO9/7538 met with an accident near Rest House Kralpora, resulting in injuries to Sabreena resident of Champora and motorcyclist Jaffar Hussain Bhat resident of Shilhal, Handwara and a pillion Shabir Ahmad Dar resident of Waghat. All the injured persons were shifted to hospital for treatment.

Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 35 bottles of prescription drugs from his possession.

On a tiff off, a Police party of Police Station Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler identified as Zahid Ahmad Dar resident of Tulkhan, Bijbehara and recovered 35 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from him. Police has registered a case FIR number 156/2015 under section 8/21/22 NDPS Act and investigation is going on.

Police arrested two peddlers and recovered 26 kilograms of Poppy straw on their instance.

Acting on a specific information, a police party headed by SHO Zainapora Yasir under the supervision of Dy SP Muzaffar Jan  during Naka checking intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK03A 8955 and on its checking police recovered 26 kilograms of poppy straw. Two peddlers who were transporting this poppy straw were taken into custody.  The arrested peddlers were identified as Bashir Ahmad Sofi and Ashiq Hussain Ganai.

Police registered a case FIR number 55/2015 under section 15 NDPS Act in this regard and further investigation is going on.
