The MEA said Saudi authorities had confirmed the deaths and that it was seeking further information about the incident and contacting the families of those affected.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased and we wish speedy recovery of the injured,” the ministry said.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said the airport was targeted on the evening of October 21. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment, while the attack also caused damage to property. Authorities were assessing the extent of the damage, it said.

Separately, the US State Department ordered non-emergency government personnel and their family members to leave Saudi Arabia, citing security concerns.
