SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated a three-day exposition for the Kashmir Marathon 2026 at Polo View in Srinagar, ahead of the event’s third edition scheduled for Sunday, October 25.

The exposition brings together government departments, sports equipment companies and event partners, with stalls displaying sports gear and accessories. It also offers participants facilities for collecting race bibs and registering for the marathon.
Speaking at the inauguration, Omar expressed confidence that the event would draw participants from across India and abroad, citing Kashmir’s scenic surroundings and the prize money on offer as key attractions.
“The Kashmir Marathon is being organised for the third time. On Sunday, people will come to participate not only from different parts of the country but also from abroad,” he said, adding that the marathon’s setting was unmatched and its prize money significantly higher than that offered by many other races.
The Chief Minister also announced that a separate prize category had been introduced for local runners following their demands, covering both the half marathon and the full marathon.
He said the initiative was intended to encourage local athletes to participate in the event and promote greater involvement in competitive running.
Recalling his participation in the first two editions, Omar expressed hope that this year’s marathon would see enthusiastic participation from runners and sports enthusiasts.
He urged those who had not registered to use the facilities available at the exposition, emphasising that participation mattered more than winning.
“Winning is not as important as participating. Take part and enjoy the marathon,” he said.
During the event, the Chief Minister interacted with stall owners, athletes and volunteers, acknowledging their efforts to promote sports, fitness and outdoor activities in Jammu and Kashmir. He also distributed race bibs and merchandise to several participants ahead of Sunday’s event.
The three-day exposition will enable runners to complete registration formalities, collect their bibs and explore sports equipment and related products before the marathon.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Secretary Tourism Avny Lavasa, Director Tourism Kashmir Syed Qamar Sajjad, event organisers and other senior officers attended the inauguration.
