SRINAGAR: A non-local worker was killed and another injured after suspected militants opened fire on them in the Kellam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening.
Officials said the attackers targeted the two workers while they were in Kellam. Both sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
One of the injured later succumbed to his injuries, while the other was referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for specialised treatment.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the assailants.
The identity of the victims and the militant outfit involved had not been officially disclosed till the filing of this report. Further details are awaited.
