The patients and the attendants at Kashmir’s top orthopaedic health care facility- Government Bone and Joint Hospital in Barzalla Srinagar on Monday alleged that the central heating system (CHS) of the hospital remains non-functional for most of the time making paients suffer in bone chilling cold.
The patients and attendants said that they shiver with cold due to dysfunctional heating arrangements. The freezing cold is having a bad affect on health of orthopaedic patients.
The patients alleged that the CHS runs for only two hours in the evening and then it is turned off. “The nights are unbearable in the hospital wards which turn into freezers once the CHS is turned off,” said Ghulam Nabi from Shopian who has been attending her mother for the past two weeks.
“The hospital lacks required beddings. Each bed has one blanket which is not sufficient to keep the patent warm,” said an attendant from Kupwara wishing not to be named.
The patents said that they repeatedly conveyed their grievances to the hospital authorities but it seems their requests fall on deaf ears. “Their own chambers are aided with air conditions and they don’t feel our pain,” a patient said.
The medical superintendent of the hospital denied such reports and said that the CHS runs as per schedule.
“The operations of the central heating system depend on the atmospheric temperature.” He said, “Besides CHS the hospital has AC arrangements for operation theatres.”
