The figures were provided in a written reply to a starred question tabled by Balwant Singh Mankotia. The Power Development Department said 5,825 daily rated workers are engaged with the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited, 4,315 with the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited, and 736 with the Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited, taking the total to 10,876.

Responding to queries on regularisation, the department said JPDCL has already regularised 332 PDL TDL and other workers in 2018 and that proposals for 167 more have recently been approved by the Board of Directors. It stated that regularisation is an ongoing process conducted through Board meetings and subject to the fulfilment of prescribed rules, qualifications and other criteria.

On electricity liabilities, the government said it has launched an amnesty scheme for domestic consumers, waiving interest and surcharge accumulated up to March 31, 2025. The scheme is valid until March 31, 2026. It also reiterated its commitment to provide 200 units of free electricity per month to Antyodaya Anna Yojana households, adding that project approval is at the final stage.

The reply also addressed demands for an additional 33 KVA line and a new grid station for Chenani. It said the existing grid sub-station at Udhampur has an installed capacity of 100 MVA and caters to a peak load of around 50 MW, and that the proposed Chenani grid does not feature in the current transmission plan of the transmission utility.
