SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a significant increase in film and OTT productions over the past year, with more than 72 projects shot across the Union Territory, according to the Economic Survey 2025–26.

The survey highlights that the rise in film and OTT shoots reflects the region’s growing appeal as a destination for audio-visual productions. The natural landscape, cultural diversity and improved infrastructure have contributed to increased filming activity across multiple locations in the Union Territory.

Film and OTT productions have emerged as an important component of tourism-linked economic activity. The survey notes that such projects generate demand for accommodation, transport, logistics and local services, contributing to employment and short-term economic circulation in filming areas.

The increase in production has taken place alongside broader efforts to position Jammu and Kashmir as a multi-dimensional tourism destination. The survey places the growth of film and OTT shoots within a wider ecosystem that includes destination weddings, cultural events and sports tourism.

In addition to economic activity, the presence of film crews has also contributed to the wider visibility of the region. The survey notes that filming activity has expanded beyond traditional locations, aligning with efforts to promote new and emerging destinations.

Infrastructure upgrades at tourist and urban locations, along with promotional initiatives, have supported the rise in creative and media-related projects.
