SRINAGAR: More than 35,900 houses have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), while 3,398 additional houses have been sanctioned under the revamped PMAY-U 2.0, the Union Government informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
According to data tabled by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, a total of 42,584 houses were sanctioned under PMAY-U in Jammu and Kashmir, while 3,398 houses have been approved under PMAY-U 2.0, taking the total sanctioned houses in the Union Territory to 45,982.
Of these, 43,907 houses have been grounded and 35,961 completed and handed over to beneficiaries. The Centre has approved Central assistance of Rs 734 crore for the Union Territory, of which Rs 544 crore has been released.
Replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said the PMAY-U scheme, launched in June 2015, aims to provide all-weather pucca houses with basic civic amenities to eligible urban beneficiaries. Based on the experience of the first phase, the government launched PMAY-U 2.0 from September 1, 2024, with the target of supporting one crore additional eligible urban beneficiaries across the country.
The minister said that, based on proposals submitted by States and Union Territories, 127.68 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 across the country. Of these, 121.03 lakh houses have been grounded and 99.07 lakh completed or delivered to beneficiaries as of July 13, 2026.
