SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded more than 8.02 lakh registrations under the Udyam Registration and Udyam Assist platforms since July 2020, placing the Union Territory among the mid to high performers nationally in formalising micro, small and medium enterprises, according to data tabled in the Lok Sabha.
The figures were shared by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in reply to an unstarred question on Udyam registration and outreach. As of December 31, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir had 8,02,511 MSMEs registered on the two portals, reflecting the scale of small business activity and the growing uptake of digital registration mechanisms in the region.
The registration numbers assume significance in the context of the revised MSME classification announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, which substantially expanded investment and turnover thresholds. Under the revised norms, micro enterprises can now invest up to Rs 2.5 crore with a turnover up to Rs 10 crore, small enterprises up to Rs 25 crore investment and Rs 100 crore turnover, and medium enterprises up to Rs 125 crore investment with a turnover up to Rs 500 crore. The ministry said the revised limits are aimed at enabling enterprises to scale up without losing MSME benefits, while protecting incentives meant exclusively for micro units.
The ministry also highlighted steps being taken nationally to improve outreach among women and tribal entrepreneurs, including awareness programmes, registration camps and hand-holding support through field offices and Common Service Centres.
Officials said the Udyam registration process remains fully online, paperless and free, based on self-declaration and Aadhaar and PAN authentication. Supporting platforms such as the Champions Portal and Online Dispute Resolution portal have been introduced to ease compliance and address grievances of MSMEs.
At the national level, over 7.41 crore enterprises have been registered on the Udyam platforms since their launch, with Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal leading in absolute numbers.
