SRINAGAR: With the lockdown crossing the third week and consuming the vital festival of the population, the costs dictated by the invisible contagion are surging with every passing day. In the last 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir lost 67 people as fresh 4169cases were detected across 20 districts of the erstwhile state.

Kashmir lost 26 citizens and Jammu 41in the last 24 hours.

Besides, 4169 new infections were registered across Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours. This was despite the lockdown that has literally paralysed life across the erstwhile state for more than a week now.

But what is rarely being seen is that more people return home from hospitals fully recovered than the new tally of infections. In the last 24 hours, as many as 4042 people recovered thus reducing the number of active cases to 50554. The recoveries included 1533 cases in Jammu and 2509 in Kashmir.

Now the death toll of Covid19 in Jammu and Kashmir is 3422 people including 1810 in Kashmir and 1612 in Jammu.

As many as 20 deaths took place in Jammu city and six in Srinagar city, the information revealed by the government said.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost five citizens each in Budgam and Pulwama, three in Kupwara, , four in Kulgam and one each in Baramulla, Bandipore and Anantnag.

Apart from 20 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost five citizens each in Rajouri, three each in Doda, Poonch and Reasi, two each in Udhampur and Ramban and one each in Kathua, Samba, and Kishtwar.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 4169 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 674. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 499 cases.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 2651 cases against 1518 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 333 from Baramulla, 393 from Budgam, 187 from Pulwama, 206 from Kupwara, 255 from Anantnag, 215 from Bandipora, 117 from Ganderbal, 206 from Kulgam, and 65 from Shopian.

From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 180, Rajouri 158, Doda 79, Kathua 174, Samba 117, Kishtwar 55, Poonch 56, Ramban 124, and Reasi 76.

Right now, Jammu and Kashmir has 50554 active cases, which includes 29638 in Kashmir 20916 in Jammu. It means Kashmir has almost double the active cases in comparison to Jammu.
