SRINAGAR

Development of the state and rehabilitation of flood affected people is the first priority of the National Conference and party will offer any kind of sacrifice for welfare of people, NC statement quoted party General Secretary National Conference Ali Mohammad Sagar as having said on Thursday.

Sagar while touring various parts of the Shehr-i-Khaas said, “rehabilitation of the flood victims has been prioritised by National Conference only.”

He added that the rehabilitation of people affected by the flood is on the top priorities of the National Conference and every step will be taken to ensure the betterment of the flood victims.

“We should work for the welfare and betterment of our society. It has been the motive of NC to work for people, which has strengthened the party at grass root levels across the length and breadth of the state,” Sagar told the workers.

“We believe people are masters of their own destiny. Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had made his place in the hearts of people as he valued and respected them,” he said and continued, “It was only for the people of the state that Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah spent 25 years in incarnation and also faced forcible exile.”

The NC leader said, “During the Maharaja’s rule on Jammu and Kashmir, the literacy rate was just 6% during and most of literates belonged to rich families.”

“It was only due to the efforts of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah that with the schemes like free education for all, the rate literacy rate has shot up to 80% today.  He wanted the Kashmiri nation to be developed on the map of world,” Sagar said.

“During his tour, a large number of commoners complained to Sagar who is also the local MLA that the electricity isn’t provided as per schedule to the consumers and they are subjected to miseries in these harsh winters.

Sagar was told that in absence of electricity people have to face a lot of hardships,” the statement informed.

Sagar took stock of the ongoing developmental projects inside the old city and directed the concerned authorities to complete all the projects on time.

Sagar said, “the National Conference took historic decisions and worked tremendously for the improvement of standard infrastructure in the old city, the result of which is that people in the old city have time and again reposed their faith in the NC government.”

He said, “We believe in sustained action rather than misleading people by propagating hypocrisy and falsehood.”

Sagar urged all the district development commissioners of Kashmir region to immediately provide the financial relief to the flood affected people on time and also do the re-verification of flood victims who lost their homes.
