SRINAGAR: People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), a conglomerate of different poltical parties in Kashmir on Saturday bagged the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of the District Development Council (DDC) Bandipora in north Kashmir.

Official sources told news agency KDC that National Conference’s Abdul Gani Bhat was elected as chairperson while PDP’s Kousar Shafeeq was elected as Vice-Chairperson.

As per details, Abdul Gani Bhat of NC became victorious after bagging total of seven votes against his nearest rival Firdousa Akhter of Apni Party.

Similarly, Kounsar Shafeeq of PDP became the vice Chairperson of DDC Bandipora after bagging eight votes against his nearest rival Tahir Qadri, who was contesting the elections as an independent candidate.

Pertinently, 13 DDC members including five from NC, three of PDP, two each from Apni Party and Independent, and one each from Congress and BJP participated in the election process and the exercise remained peaceful. Moreover, ECI had withheld the vote count on Hajin-A DDC constituency last year and it remained undecided since then.
