SRINAGAR: The government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday announced a paid holiday on November 11, 2025, in Assembly Constituencies 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota on account of the upcoming by-elections.
As per official orders, the day of polling shall be treated as a paid holiday for every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other establishment and who is entitled to vote.
The order specifies that no deduction or abatement of wages shall be made for employees on account of the holiday. Even those who would not ordinarily receive wages for the day are entitled to receive payment as if they had worked.
The order also warns that any employer contravening the provisions may be fined up to Rs 500, except in cases where the absence of an employee may cause danger or substantial loss in their employment. The paid holiday is in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and in terms of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The announcement follows notifications from the Election Commission of India and the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, regarding the by-elections. (KNC)
