North Kashmir’s Palhallan and its adjoining areas observed complete shutdown on Thursday to mourn the mysterious death of a local youth Mudasir Ahmed Sofi, who according to police lost his life while trying to press the trigger of snatched INSAS rifle in Kreeri area on Wednesday.

All the business establishments and shops remain closed and traffic remained off the roads. People from Pattan, Palhallan, Wusan, Goshbugh and other areas reached to the slain youth’s native village in large numbers to express solidarity with the bereaved family.

Police had sealed all the important and restive points in the town and large number of police and Para-military troopers were deployed to thwart possible protests.

A police official told CNS that the situation in Pattan, Palhallan and its adjoining areas remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the town.
