Paying glorious tributes to Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas on his 48th anniversary, Hurriyat Conference (g) Secretary General and Democratic Freedom Party chairperson, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Monday said the leader will always be remembered for his “great contribution to the freedom movement”.

“Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas was a star of Kashmir’s freedom movement,” he said in a party statement.

“Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas through the Muslim Conference gave a new direction to the Kashmir’s movement and when Sheikh Abdullah rechristened the party with National Conference, Chaudhary Abbas showed strong resistance against the move and took forward the mission of Muslim Conference,” Shah said, adding that ultimately Chaudhary Abbas became the President of Azad Kashmir. “During the 1947 massacre of Muslims, Chaudhary Abbas’s family had to face much hard ships.”

The Hurriyat (g) Secretary General strongly condemned the “administration’s and police’s suppressive and repressive actions” upon the people of Palhallan terming it the “political vengeance”.

“To slap PSAs on minors is intolerable and criticised the authorities’ brutal attitude against the Palhallan people,” he said, “Palhallan has always remained committed to the freedom movement and this is the reason this area is continuously targeted by government.”

Expressing solidarity with those families whose kins have been arrested on stone pelting charges, Shah said, “committing the state terrorism under the garb of black laws, the authorities cannot break our resolve.”
