A Kashmiri Pandit who lost his residential house in a devastating fire Tuesday alleged that despite receiving massive funds all over India for the help of Pandits in Kashmir Valley, socio-religious organization ‘Zeashta Devi Prabandakh Committee’ (ZDPC) doesn’t help the needy and downtrodden Pandits living in Kashmir Valley.

Staging a silent protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar, Kashmiri Pandit Omkar Nath Kachru told news agency CNS that on 16 February his house located near Zeithyar Mandir Rajbhavan was completely gutted in a devastating fire and since then he has been living under open sky. He said that members of ZDPC declined to help him despite the fact more than 70 rooms are in their possession. “ZDPC members receive funds from Hindu organizations all over India. They have built up large settlements and instead of providing any help to any needy Pandit these members charge money for a day or night stay in their rooms,” he said.

“I had requested ZDPC to provide a room for me till I built my house again, but they declined. It is high time to expose the members of ZDPC. They get massive donations and instead of helping poor and needy, they fill their coffers. We appeal to all organizations that provide donations to ZDPC to make the members accountable,” Kachru said.

When contacted General Secretary ZDPC Rakesh Koul said that the house of fire victim’s sister is intact and he can stay there. “We can’t provide him any room as they are meant for Yatri’s,” he said. (CNS)
