SRINAGAR: Engineer Rashid’s Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) lacks any significant base in south and central Kashmir, so on Sunday, it set up a committee to decide whether it should participate or abstain from the ensuing Lok Sabha polls for the two segments, slated early April.

An election scene in Gulmarg.

A spokesman of the AI said that the party has set up a six member committee to decide about participation or abstaining from the bye poles in Islamabad and Srinagar parliamentary constituencies.  Party General council meeting presided over by MLA Langate Er. Rasheed held today day long deliberations at Party Headquarter Srinagar to discuss the matter.

Meeting was over with the decision to nominate committee of six members that includes Er. Rasheed, Advocate Nazir Ahmad Malik, Dr Bari Nayak, Aadil Hussain, Inamu-Nabi and Nissar-ul-haq to take a final call about the party’s participation or otherwise in upcoming poles.

In the last bye-elections that saw Ms Mehbooba Mufti being elected to the assembly, AIP had fielded a candidate who lost the election.
