A spokesperson from the Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, said that the upgraded equipment will ensure only authentic Pashmina fibres are certified, strengthening brand credibility in global markets. This move is expected to support artisans and craft businesses by improving access to new markets and economic opportunities.

To ensure efficient operation, PTQCC staff have been trained by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Officials added that the advancement will further benefit the entire handicrafts and handloom sector in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering long-term growth and innovation.

Anticipating increased demand for testing and QR labelling, the Handicrafts and Handloom Department has also proposed Rs 1.35 crore for a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) under the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP) for the 2025-26 financial year. The proposal has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Commerce for approval.
