Tense situation prevailed in North Kashmir a day after mutilated bodies of three youth termed as “militants” were recovered from the orchard in Pattan.

Pattan, Palhallan and Sopore areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district observed complete shutdown against the alleged “murder” of the three men, one of them, according to reports, “very young”.

Witnesses said that shops and all commercial establishments are closed while public transport is off the roads.

They said that angry youths pelted stones on public transport at Sangrama in Sopore to ensure complete shutdown.

Social media exploded with outrage as pictures of three mutilated bodies of fairly young men suspected to be militants went viral yesterday. Condemnations poured in from all quarters while chairman Hurriyat (g) Syed Ali Geelani and JKLF chief Yasin Malik called for a state-wide shutdown on Wednesday.

Police have identified the dead bodies as militants of Lashkar-e-Islam, a breakaway faction of Hizbul Mujahideen led by Qayoom Najar allegedly involved in carrying out attacks on mobile towers some months back.
