Baramulla:
To minimize eve-teasing, Pattan police in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have asked girls studying in schools and colleges to approach the police directly by dialing phone numbers. The special campaign is aimed at persuading girls to come forward and complain themselves through phone numbers or whatsapp group numbers.
A top police official told CNS that they have been receiving multiple complaints from people some debauch and morally degraded persons have been heckling, stalking and teasing female folks in bus stands, markets and streets. “Girls usually hesitate in approaching police through institutions due to social reasons. We hope that by making our phone and Whatsapp numbers public, girls would be able to speak to us without hesitation. We have a team that is on standby round the clock to rush immediately if any eve-teasing incident is reported,” said the police official.
He said that in any case where a girl feels unsafe or is being teased by any eve-teaser must report directly to the Police or Dial-100 or PCR Baramulla 9596767768. In case there is no response they can send a text on Whatsapp number of SDPO Pattan 9419942879 or 9596767706 SHO Pattan 9419047316 or 9596767716. (CNS)
