SRINAGAR: The Peoples Conference (PC) announced on Friday that its president, Sajad Gani Lone, will contest from the Handwara and Kupwara assembly segments in North Kashmir.
Quoting sources, KNO reported that Lone faced significant pressure from party members to stand for Kupwara, in addition to the Handwara seat, where the party has led in all elections since 2014.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Lone secured a lead of over 7,000 votes over the National Conference, which was relegated to third place in Handwara.
The list also includes senior general secretary and influential Shia cleric Imran Reza Ansari, who will contest from the Pattan assembly segment. In the last assembly election, Ansari defeated the NC candidate by 9,934 votes.
The party has decided to field Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar (former MLA) from Trehgam, Irfan Panditpori from Langate, Dr Naseer Awan from Karnah, and Mudasir Akbar Shah from Lolab.
