SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) on Friday withdrew its indefinite strike after the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) accepted several key demands following overnight negotiations.
The strike, which began on Thursday, was called to press for the withdrawal of suspension orders, registration of FIRs in power theft cases and a standard operating procedure (SOP) for dealing with damaged electricity meters.
An agreement covering the committee’s nine-point charter was signed at around 1.45 am after several hours of discussions between JKPEECC convenor Sachin Tickoo, JKEEGA president Sanjay Sharma and JPDCL Managing Director Gurpal Singh.
Under the agreement, JPDCL revoked the suspension orders issued against six employees and kept the associated show-cause notices in abeyance.
The management also agreed to designate officers authorised to lodge complaints in power theft cases and prepare an SOP for damaged meters within one month.
It further agreed to take action against agencies found responsible for deficiencies in meter-related works.
The management assured the employees that Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) proceedings would be expedited and that any action against employees would be taken in accordance with due procedure.
Following the agreement, the employees’ body called off the proposed indefinite strike.
