As per sources a slight adjustment in the ongoing power curtailment schedule may be considered before the holy month begins.

“As of now, the PDD has not made any decision regarding changes to the curtailment schedule. However, if any modification is required, the department will take a call a week before Ramadhan,” sources said.

“Power curtailments have already been reduced in many areas,” they said.

“At present, we have sufficient power available and are distributing it in line with the existing curtailment schedule. Curtailments have also been reduced in several areas of the Kashmir region,” they added.

Notably, the PDD has been able to generate only 24 Megawatts (MW) of electricity from power plants in Kashmir, despite a total installed capacity of around 250 MW.

A senior official from JKSPDC previously said that Kashmir’s power plants were producing only 60 MW, far below their 250 MW generation capacity.

The total power generation capacity from projects across Jammu and Kashmir stands at approximately 1,200 MW, while NHPC contributes 2,250 MW.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir faced a power shortage of nearly 80 percent in November and December. During this period, PDD was generating only 200-260 MW across all power projects in the region. (KNO)
