To review the functioning of five-month long coalition government in the state, the PDP-BJP Coordination Committee met here Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief minister Dr Nirmal Singh.

Official sources told KNS that the meeting which was held at Hari Niwas Palace started at 6 pm and continued for two hours.

According to sources, the appointments to State Accountability Commission (SAC), Backward Classes Commission (BCC) and filling-up of posts of vice chairpersons of more Boards/Corporations and in other departments were figured in the meeting.

It is to mention here that coordination committee met ahead of cabinet scheduled to meet tomorrow under chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Besides the agenda of cabinet other important issues including the on-going development works in the state as well as overall security situation in the aftermath of the recent militant attacks were also discussed, said sources.

They added that the Coordination Committee also reviewed the performance of the ministers and discuss the achievements, the works done in past months, immediate priorities, security arrangements and various other issues. The progress on the issues taken up in the previous Coordination Committee meeting was also reviewed in the meeting, sources added.

Meanwhile, BJP sources said the CC meeting besides taking stock of the developmental activities initiated by the government in all the three regions of the State, also took stock of the prevailing political and security situation in the state, particularly in Kashmir.

Sources said that the grant of portfolios to two BJP’s Ministers of State, which were with the party before Abdul Ghani Kohli and Chering Dorjey were elevated to the Cabinet rank, was also discussed.

They said some other issues, which was part of the ‘Agenda of Alliance’ was also taken up by the Coordination Committee for implementation. “The coordination committee went on smoothly,” one of the PDP politicians who was part of the meeting said.

A 10-member coordination committee of coalition partners PDP and BJP was formed to ensure that the agenda for the alliance is implemented within the defined time-frame and all the policy issues adhered to in letter and spirit.

It was also decided that it will ensure smooth functioning of the alliance and the PDP-BJP coalition government and may suggest from time to time various initiatives to be taken for the overall wellbeing of the people of the state.
