SRINAGAR

Assailing Peoples’ Democratic Party for its insensitivity and callousness towards border residents under the target of heavy mortal shelling from across the border, Former Deputy Chairman Legislative Council and National Conference MLA Javed Rana on Saturday wondered over total neglect of a visiting minister to those injured.

“Like Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti, Minister for Consumer Affairs Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali also ignored the hapless victims thus showing scant regard for the people living along Line of Control and International Border,” Rana said in a statement. “We hope this is not the official policy of PDP to abandon people in distress, be it in Kashmir or the Jammu region.”

MLA Mendhar, the statement said, was expecting the CAPD Minister to undo the insult done to injured and their families yesterday at Bhimber Gali, when the Chief Minister didn’t turn up despite the victims being made to wait by the administration for hours together. Choudhary followed her.

“The repeated insult of people of Mendhar by the highest level political executive in the State has no parallel in the recent history of J&K’s politics and smacks of absolute arrogance and defiance of genuine public sentiments” the MLA said adding that he pity the display of such social impropriety.

Rana expressed solidarity with the border resident, saying they should not feel alone at this hour of crisis. “We share their miseries and agonies”, he said, adding that the PDP-BJP government will be made accountable for its actions, especially indifference towards the suffering border dwellers.
