National Conference has expressed disappointment over the BJPDP Government’s inaction on the crucial issue of regularization of thousands of casual and daily-wagers who continue to live in uncertainty due to the present Government’s irresponsible and non-serious attitude on this matter.

NC Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said the Government should ensure that this matter is addressed as a top priority as thousands of families across the State are living in anxiety and misery because of inaction and misplaced priorities of the administration.

“The Government should take immediate steps to initiate a process of regularizing the casual and daily-wager employees in the State – as was envisaged by the previous Government. National Conference – in the previous Government’s tenure – had left no stone unturned to start the regularization of thousands of such employees on humanitarian grounds but those efforts unfortunately failed to yield the desired results because of a different stand taken by the then alliance partner of the party in the Government. Now, it is incumbent on the PDP-BJP Govt to fulfil this demand as they had promised in their election campaign and also when the formed the Government in the State. Staying silent and dormant on this issue is insensitive and not a sustainable option”, Dr Kamal said in a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar.

The NC Additional General Secretary also sought the immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in the State and said Mehbooba Mufti should seek all necessary budgetary support for this from her alliance partner in New Delhi. “There is a BJP Government in New Delhi and Mehbooba Mufti is in an alliance with the BJP. For her to claim budgetary constraints on this specific issue is unacceptable. This issue affects the lives of more than four hundred thousand employees and their families and the Chief Minister should not burden the State’s financial obligations by deferring this decision indefinitely”, the NC Additional General Secretary added.

“National Conference also demands that the Government start filling thousands of vacancies in various Government departments to help in tackling the growing issue of unemployment in the State. These vacancies are also inhibiting optimum performance of various important departments and the Government should initiate a transparent employment drive to fill these vacancies and give our unemployed youth opportunities to seek employment in the public sector in addition to job opportunities in the private sector”, the NC Additional General Secretary further said.
