Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday condemned the widespread attack on the media persons in Srinagar while discharging their professional duties.
In a statement issued here, PDP Srinagar District President and MLC Mohammad Khurshid Alam stated that these attacks are in actual being carried our on the freedom of the press and the party condemns it in its strongest terms.
Alam said that such attacks on media are condemnable and no democratic system can tolerate it. “We urge the Governor administration to take action against anyone involved in such actions and bring them before the law as an attack on democracy’s fourth pillar is an assault on democracy itself,” Alam added.
The PDP leader stated that it is a truth universally acknowledged that the media fraternity in Kashmir has been working amid the tumultuous times and is battling all odds to discharge duties professionally and with utmost sincerity. “There is no law that can prevent the press to function sans any hindrance. The society has to respect and regard the fact that the journalists in Kashmir have been doing their duties despite a plethora of hardships and their contribution to the state is worth to hail,” Alam said.
