Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday held a press conference at their Lal Chowk office to condemn the security withdrawal of various political leaders, including separatists and mainstream parties.

They called the decision ‘an agenda of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) to prevent other parties from reaching to the people.’

The security withdrawal is selective in nature, alleged PDP. “There has been targeted withdrawal of security and some selective parties are being victimized that too in a situation that is totally not viable for such decisions,” said senior PDP leader Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura

The PDP further criticized the governor Satya Paul Malik for taking such political decisions which are meant to be taken by an elected government. “Such attitude is harmful to democracy in particular for people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

On being asked about separatist leaders who say that they never had any security, Lone said that the government is trying to deceive the public with such false narratives. Earlier, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir downgraded and withdrew the security of 173 persons including some separatists and mainstream party workers.

“There is also chaos and confusion prevalent within the system. On one side Government claims to have taken away the security of Syed Ali Geelani, Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah and on the other side, these leaders claim to have never received any security cover. The government must come clear on this,” said Hanjura.

The PDP leader also expressed concern over the war hysteria being created between the two countries post-Pulwama attack and termed the decision to stop water flowing to Pak and diverting it to other states a real worrisome decision which can have far-reaching consequences.

“It has always been the cardinal principle of the PDP that no dispute can ever be resolved through confrontational attitude and it is dialogue and reconciliation alone that can provide a bulwark against the swirling tides. The two countries must understand that wars fought in the past only brought death and destruction to the people of both the nations,” Hanjura said.

He also stated that unless India and Pakistan don’t initiate dialogue process, it is impossible that the situation in Kashmir will get any better and peace will return to the crises riven state.

Expressing concern for the people of Kashmir being troubled in various parts of India, Lone urged the Delhi to provide safety to Kashmiris. In addition to this, they thanked the Sikh community for providing food and shelter to the people in despair. They also expressed their gratitude to the state administrations which provided safety for the Kashmiris.
