Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the twin blasts in Hyderabad that claimed many lives on Thursday. The party president Mehbooba Mufti has expressed shock at the bomb attacks and loss of life and damage of property. She conveyed her condolences to the families of the dead and prayed for speedy recovery of the large number of injured.

As per a statement Mehbooba said while everybody look forward to the results of the investigation and severe punishment to the perpetrators of crime it was important not to go witch hunting as had been the case on many such occasions previously. She said, “The victimization of the members of a community in Makkah Masjid, Ajmir Sharief, Maleygaon and Samjhota Express blasts had resulted in a large number of muslim youth being framed on charges that proved completely fabricated and false, but only after they had spent years in custody.” She has further appealed that nobody must be harassed for his religious affiliation.

Mehbooba also said, “Unfortunately on such tragic occasions Kashmiri youth in different parts of the country also became ‘natural suspects’. Those arrested in the Lajpat Nagar blast took them more than seventeen years to establish their innocence and in the process a few families were devastated and the implicated young men lost the very meaning of their promising lives.” She further added that even scores of youth from Kashmir are imprisoned in jails across the country, many of them reportedly in Delhi’s Tihar jail alone on charges that remain to be proved.

Referring to news reports that many students studying in Uttrakhand had to return home to escape the harassment by extremist elements following Afzal Guru’s hanging Mehbooba said some students had even been arrested there earlier. She said such preconceived approach to crimes like the Hyderabad blasts create reasons for alienation among muslims and reinforce their sense of victimhood apart from the police being unable to nab the real culprits, the government of India and national leadership across parties, Mehbooba said should address this serious issue of biased investigation and ensure a professional probe in all terrorist activities rather than following stereotypes in looking for scapegoats through biased mindsets.
