BJP man In Congress fold

Stating that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government was running on the dictations of RSS, Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir Friday questioned the PDP government as to why it was opposing granting citizenship of India rights to West Pak Refugees when it was in opposition.

In a statement issued here, GA Mir said, “When Congress was taking up the issue that West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) need identification as citizens of India, it was PDP who would always oppose the move. Our stand has been always clear that there was no problem in granting WPRs citizenship of India. Though from time-to-time questions have been raised by some parties over granting WPRs domicile of the State, the decision was pending,” Mir said.

“When the PDP wasn’t ready even to identify WPRs as citizens of India in 12-years, when the Congress was in power, what compelled them to clarify this part of pending resolution. This was pending for the last more than 60 years and PDP was always opposing it. What compelled them to do it now,” Mir questioned.

The JKPCC President said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was taking decision only to secure her chair as PDP has sold everything to RSS. “Whatever is dictated by RSS in the interest of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), CM Mehbooba gives them smooth go through. What was the role of PDP when they were in opposition for six years. Now they have totally taken a U-turn,” he said.

Questioning the wisdom of the Government to take a decision on such sensitive issue without taking opposition parties into confidence, GA Mir said, “Even if they (PDP-led government) had to take this decision, they could have discussed the same in the Assembly to take all the parties into confidence as this was a sensitive issue. Assembly session is round the corner and why couldn’t government wait for 10-more days on such a vital issue?”

“When the issue was discussed in the Assembly last time, PDP wasn’t on-board over the issue. They should have at least respected the views of the opposition parties before taking the decision,” the JKPCC President said.

He said that the Congress party has always been at the forefront to give basic rights to the refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971. “In this regard, a package of one time settlement of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 comprising financial assistance/ex-gratia relief of Rs 25 lakhs  per family alongwith several other concessions including reservation to their wards was  recommended by the previous Congress-NC coalition government to the Centre, after hot pursuit by the Congress,” the JKPCC President said.

He (Mir) said that the unholy PDP-BJP alliance has failed to satiate the aspirations of people of the state. “To divert attention from the real issues, this Government has been from the day one creating controversies. The slogans of ‘Change’ and ‘Ache-Din’ of PDP and BJP have proven a hoax as they have failed on all fronts. The inherent contradictions within the alliance has brought the state to chaos and confusion. The two parties have been attempting to polarise situation in the state to hide their failures on governance front,” GA Mir said.
