Ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) hopes that the government will actively consider release of political prisoners on eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr, considering its importance for the families of detainees.

The Party also hopes that any request for parole from under trials and other jail inmates if pending with the home department will also be  accorded compassionate consideration.

Underlying the human aspect of such measures PDP General Secretary Nizamudin Bhat said that PDP has always pleaded justice and compassion and has struggled hard for healing touch policy as an alternative to sufferings of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. It is in this context that the attention towards families of incarcerated people should gain priority with the government. Anyone who is involved in minor offenses deserves amnesty and there has been always a consideration with the government to grant this as a welfare measure.

“It is PDP’s firm policy to adopt an emancipated policy even about those who have been battling for ideas and ideologies. Many forces have been causing hurdles in implementation of such liberal policies. However constitution, law and president favour a humanitarian angle. Therefore on a festival like Eid, government should be firm in its approach to uphold policy of PDP to get support to its citizens as and when required,” Bhat said in a statement.
