Srinagar: Intensifying election campaign for Srinagar-Budgam parliamentary constituency, senior party leader and Minister Imran Ansari Friday said that National Conference was fighting a lost battle in Jammu and Kashmir.

“They (NC leadership) stand exposed before the people of Jammu and Kashmir in general and Kashmir in particular for the double standards and stands. The electorates have punished them for their misdeeds and now they have again taken shelter to Congress in an attempt to seek their political revival”, Ansari said while addressing series of public meetings in Chadoora.

Earlier Ansari, who is also Party Incharge for the constituency, chaired a high level meeting of top party leaders, including ministers and legislators at party headquarters, to review the ongoing campaign process. The party candidate Nazir Ahmed Khan was also present.

Among others the meeting was attended by R&B Minister Naeem Akhtar, Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Noor Mohammad, MLA, Khursheed Alam, MLC, Mohd Ashraf Mir, MLA, Abid Ansari, MLA, Saif-ud-Din Butt, MLC, Muntazir Mohi-ud-Din, Bashir Ahmed Mir and Dr Mohammad Shafi.

Ansari said that National Conference could not find a candidate to be fielded in Srinagar-Budgam constituency as such had to push Dr Farooq Abdullah. “The party is running on crutches. It has not only betrayed the people of state but its own workers”, he said.

National Conference- Congress coalition has always brought chaos and uncertainty in the State by propagating oppressive policies, he said while lamenting that instead of adopting humanistic approach to address grievances of the common masses, the two parties and their leaders have brazenly mis-used State apparatus to gag genuine voice of the people.

He said that the credibility of the both Congress as well as National Conference has reached at its lowest ebb because they have lost faith of the people. “The electorates are wise enough to understand the gimmick of this party and its leadership and their utterances they are making during the election days”, he said.

The party candidate Nazir Ahmed Khan, meanwhile, addressed several meetings in Beerwah constituency.

“Dr Farooq Abdullah has already accepted defeat. He and his party have no agenda and direction as such was resorting to rhetoric to gain sympathy among the people”, he said.

Abdullahs had ruined everyone from Pakistan to Hurriyat to mainstream politicians from time to time. “He (Farooq) is now contesting with the support of the Congress. The NC should admit that it is handicapped to contest the polls alone,” he said.
