SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party leaders on Wednesday meet their party president Mehbooba Mufti for the first time since Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was revoked by the Centre on August 5, 2019.

In a video viral on social media, Ms Mufti was seen interacting with the leaders of her party, who were welcoming and greeting her.

Party sources said that Mehbooba is likely to visit Bijbehara to offer prayers at the grave of her father, Mufti Mohammad Syed, later in the day.

Mehbooba was released on Tuesday two weeks after the Supreme Court asked the Jammu and Kashmir administration if the former chief minister’s detention under PSA can be extended beyond a year and, if so, “how long do you propose to extend it”. The bench had fixed the next date of hearing on Thursday, October 15, 2020.

Mehbooba Mufti Being Set Free, Government

Mehbooba Mufti was first detained under Sections 107 and 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and later booked under the Public Safety Act. She was lodged at Cheshma Shahi guest house and then shifted to another government guest house at MA Road Lal Chowk. Later she was then taken to her residence where she remained under house arrest.

Soon after her release, she released her first video message on the Twitter evening saying that people of Jammu and Kashmir will have to struggle for the restoration of article 370.

In a 1.24 audio that she uploaded on her Twitter handle, Mehbooba Mufti invoked Kashmir issue and said the people will have to struggle for the restoration of article 370.

Terming august 5 development as “black decision” of a black day, she said was hurting her body and souls during her 14-month long incarceration.

She said the people in Jammu and Kashmir also felt the same way.

“None of us can ever forget the black dacoity and humiliation of that day,” she said.  “We will have to take a plunge that what Delhi durbar snatched from us unconstitutionally, illegally and undemocratically will have to be taken back. This is not an easy task though,” said Mehbooba.

At the same time, she said that people will have to struggle for Kashmir issue for which the people have given their lives.

She called for the release of all political detainees of Jammu and Kashmir.
