The main opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Panthers Party boycotted the governor’s address to the joint session of the state legislature. While as the independent lawmaker Er Rasheed was marshaled out from the assembly hall when he repeatedly tried to disrupt the governor’s address.

The PDP, staged a dharan on the gate of the assembly hall on Thursday, the opening day of the budget session 2013. In the meantime the state governor NN Vohra reached the scene and the protesting PDP legislators shouted slogans demanding the body of Afzal Guru, who was hanged and buried in Tihar jail on Februray 9.

As soon as the governor started his address, the PDP members started shouting slogans to press for their demand. The PDP members were alleging the state government of spreading “terror” by the illegal arrests in the valley. They accused that the state government has failed in every respect.

In the meantime, the Panthers party members also started shouting against the government. They were demanding that the governor should take over and announce the bye elections. Both PDP and Panthers party walked out of the hall shouting slogans to press their respective demands and boycotted the governor’s joint address.

“By adding Maqbool Bhat to Afzal Guru, chief minister, is in fact trying to sabotage the return of the body of Afzal,” PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said.

MLA Langate was also on his toes and he too was demanding the body of Afzal Guru. Rasheed however, did not boycott the governor’s address but he opted for disrupting the proceedings by trying to come in front of him. When Rasheed’s resistance increased, he was marshaled out of the hall.
