Demanding immediate restoration of the political activities in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday while paying rich tributes to its founder Mufti Mohd Sayeed said the vision envisaged by its founder will act as a guiding principle for the party’s future strategy.

In order to pay tributes to Mufti Mohd Sayeed on his 4th death anniversary, party supporters, activists and leaders in droves congregated at the PDP head office in Jammu and highlighted late leader’s role in rejuvenating the hope for peaceful and tranquil Jammu and Kashmir, a party spokesman said.

Highlighting the role of Mufti in rejuvenating the hope for peaceful and tranquil Jammu and Kashmir, PDP general secretary Surinder Chowdhary, addressing the meeting in Jammu, said he took a series of confidence-building measures and made strenuous efforts in making peace an inseparable feature of Jammu and Kashmir.

He castigated the BJP over its “dubious role” towards Jammu and Kashmir and said “even when the people in Jammu voted in droves for the party during the polls, it backstabbed them, denying the coming generation the livelihood opportunities in a ruthless manner”.

“The agrarian crisis in Jammu is mounting with each passing day with little being done to mitigate the massive losses incurred by the farmers due to the climate change,” he said, adding that the people living in the frontier districts have been exposed to hardships by the BJP led dispensation and no concrete efforts were taken even for the construction of bunkers in the areas where residents are at the receiving end of the hostilities between the two countries.  He also took a dig at the BJP for leaving the vital projects like AIIMS, IIT and IIM in limbo.

PDP leader Hamid Choudhary in his address paid tributes to PDP founder Mufti Mohd Sayeed, terming him a lover of peace who made always relentless efforts for prevalence of peace as and when he got the opportunity and lived an active and dynamic life, appeared on state’s horizon like a meteor and unfortunately disappeared but still making an indelible mark on the minds that are always eager to contribute towards according to a dignified life to the otherwise perturbed people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior leader Ved Mahajan asked the party functionaries to work with greater coordination and strengthen the party on the ground.  He added that at this crucial juncture of history it is the PDP alone that has the ability to steer the ship to the shore and that time has proven beyond doubt that the PDP has stood steadfast every time against all odds to safeguard Jammu and Kashmir’s core interests.

In Kashmir, the spokesman said an impressive function was held at the party head office in Srinagar, where the leaders demanded the release of the political leaders and restoration of the political activities without any further delay.

Senior leader Abdul Hameed Kosheen, Advocate  Javaid Ahmad,  Ab Qayoom Bhat,  Bashir Ahmad Zone President Batamaloo, Ghulam Babi, Manzoor Ahmad Matoo, PDP Youth general secretary Mohsin Qayoom Haji Parvez and several others attended the function, he said.
