SRINAGAR

Exhorting party cadre to work for strengthening secular fabric in the State, patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Monday said that the biggest of message of his party was to spread peace, amity and tranquility in this region. He said PDP has not only strengthened relations among different regions and sub-regions of the State but also facilitated peace in the sub-continent.

Addressing a function to welcome senior BJP leader Ishtaq Ahmed Wani who along with  his supporters joined PDP here today, Mufti said that his party has pioneered a political and economic agenda to establish sustainable peace in the sub-continent.

“Establishing lasting peace and to consolidate the reconciliation process is on the top of the agenda of PDP,” he said and added that party would continue its effort to normalize relations between India and Pakistan.

“Our party, through its pro-peace policies, has consolidated reconciliation process and facilitated the efforts of establishing peace in this region”, he said, and added that beginning of cross LoC trade, opening of Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads are noticeable achievements of PDP”. He further mentioned that it was result of the reconciliatory policies of PDP that there was complete peace and normalcy on border from Kathua to Kargil during PDP regime. He, however, regretted that present government has failed to carry forward that agenda of peace in the State.

“Previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee had whole heartedly supported our initiatives” he said while recalling the historic rally of then Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee at Kashmir on 18 April 2003 when he had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan at the time when tension was running high on borders. It was our conviction and credibility that despite tension on border at that time, Atal Behari Vajpayee had made an historical announcement from Kashmir which ultimately led to ease tension on the borders.

Welcoming those who joined PDP, Mufti said that Chenab Valley region his strategic importance in entire South Asian sub-continent due availability of water in this region.
