Member Parliament representing central Kashmir and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) politician, Tariq Hamid Karra was missing in his party’s Srinagar convention on Sunday.
PDP launched its state membership drive on Sunday from Municipal Park here.
MP Karra, who has been speaking openly against the alliance of PDP with rightwing Hindu nationalist BJP, did not attend the convention where almost all the members from district Srinagar were present.
Karra reportedly attended only one party meeting which was chaired by Mehbooba Mufti after the death of former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
However, party sources said MP Karra is out of state. “He is in Dubai that is why he could not attend the meeting,” a source said, “he had intimated the party top brass in advance.”
Karra, sources said, will return home in next week.
Sunday’s PDP membership drive witnessed some interesting events.
When Mehbooba Mufti renewed membership in PDP, she paid Rs 100 as party fund. And when PDP Secretary General called former MoS Health and MLA Hazratbal Asiya Naqash, she was short of currency.
Apparently caught in tight spot, Mehbooba helped her colleague handing her Rs 100 note.
Again, as the former Bandipora lawmaker rose to call MLC Anjum Fazili for her turn, she quickly called a security guard standing nearby her and got Rs 100 note from him which she paid as party fund.
In the end, when PDP president was about to leave the venue, someone nearby the pandal starting shouting with some paper in his hands. When Mehbooba asked her party activists to receive the paper from the person, he refused to hand it over.
