Police in its drive against drug menace arrested four peddlers and recovered large quantity of prescription drugs meant for sale among the youth from them.

A police statement said Thursday evening that acting on a tip off, police established a Naka at Adipora village in Sopore. During the Naka checking, police party intercepted a Santro car bearing registration number JK05D/5929. Upon checking of the car, police recovered large quantity of prescription drugs from the car. The recoveries includes 2 bottles of one litre each of Codeine Phosphate,20 bottles of Codeine Phosphate small bottles and 2040 tablets of Aprozolam,” the statement said.

Four peddlers who were transporting the drugs in the car were taken into custody. The arrested peddlers were identified as Mehraj-u-din Khanday, Bashir Ahmad both resident of Jalalabad, Sopore, Rafiq Mir resident of Adipora and Bashir Bhat resident of Chinkipora, Sopore. On their questioning, it surfaced that the accused used to sell these prescription drugs among the youth of the area, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the statement said that 150 saplings of local willow were planted in Leh under “Operation Jullay”.

Police planted 150 saplings plants in Nubra as a part of “Operation Jullay” in Leh district that was launched by SSP Leh Sunil Gupta from DPL, Leh few days back.

“Police planted 150 saplings of local willow in the premises of Police station Nubra. The drive is being initiated under the name of operation Jully. Hundreds of Police Jawans and officers are participating in the drive. R.P Singh Dy SP DAR Leh is supervising the plantation drive in the police establishments across the district Leh,” the statement informed.
