Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Monday said “national media” should not brand all Kashmiri youth as stone throwers and stop showing discussion programmes spreading hatred against Kashmiris.

Ms Mufti said most of the youth do not pelt stones. “Few people pelt stones, all the youth don’t do that,” Indian express quoted her having told a news wire service.

Her comments came two days after student protests broke out in the town of Handwara in Kupwara district where students alleged police of high handedness.

Yesterday, today student protests were reported in Tral area of Pulwama district.

Critics have accused India’s electronic media of running hate campaign against the people of Kashmir. Couple of weeks ago Kashmir’s noted writer Mirza Waheed commented on Indian media in a New York Times opinion piece, “I don’t remember seeing any country’s media as hostile to an entire people as a lot of Indian media is to the people of Kashmir.”
