Incumbent Langate lawmaker Er Rasheed was detained on Monday after he tried to gherao the civil secretariat on its opening day after six months here.
Rasheed had earlier said that he would gherao the secretariat to protest against the use of force on students, human rights violations and “RSS control over the secretariat”.
Police swung into action and detained Rasheed outside the secretariat building here.
Meanwhile a spokesperson of Rasheed said that the protesters who were chased away by the police at Secretariat later ‘ghearoed’ the vehicle of Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh near exhibition grounds.
He claimed that Nirmal Singh missed the guard of honour ceremony due to the ‘ghearo’.
