Scores of Public Health Engineer Department (PHE) daily wagers assembled here at Press Enclave, demanding the release of their salaries pending for the last many months.

They were carrying placards in their hands having their demand written on them.

The protesters said that despite working continuously during the pandemic and risking their lives, they were without salaries for the past few months.

They alleged that the incumbent Chief Engineer of the Jal Shakti department is acting as a stumbling block.

They requested LG Manoj Sinha to release the salaries so that they could fullfil their needs and to seek an explanation from the chief engineer for withholding their salary.

“Eid is around the corner and our salaries have been put on hold without any reason by the Chief Engineer, while our salaries are released on 20th of every month but we don’t know why the same has not been released till now,” they added.

They urged upon the authorities to implement the Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir.
