water-10004635-1405362444-1293911331Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in Kashmir  provides water supply to 75.29 lakh souls of the Kashmir division, including an urban population of 23.55 lakh souls and rural population of 51.75 lakh souls. This was revealed in a meeting chaired by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

The meeting according to spokesman was  convened to review the functioning of PHE Department and progress of various ongoing projects under it.

Giving details, the spokesman said that the threadbare discussions were held on the status of ongoing projects and schemes including AMRUT, LIC, Capex Budget, NRDWP and NABARD.

“It was given out that for rural population, 1963 water supply schemes were taken up against which 1218 water supply schemes stand completed till March 2016, while as rest are at various stages of completion,” the meeting was informed.The meeting according to spokesman was further informed that various schemes have been taken up for execution under AMRUT including those in

The meeting according to spokesman was further informed that various schemes have been taken up for execution under AMRUT including those in Tangnar, Sukhnag, Anantnag and Sopore at approved costs of Rs 148.37 crore, Rs 121.00 crore, Rs 45.89 crore and Rs 33.58 crore respectively.

The Div Com was also briefed that under NRDWP there are about 745 schemes, including 638 Coverage (Piped) Water Supply Schemes, 8 Quality Affected Habitations (IR Plants), and 98 Source Sustainability, with a total allocation of  Rs 129.28 crore for 2016-2017.

It was said that the PHE has framed a draft plan to work out the demands of water supply as per the area designated in revised master plan 2015-35 which spreads to an area of 757 sq. km, against 416.10 sq km as per the master plan 2000-2021.
