SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced free online coaching for youth preparing for competitive examinations, saying the initiative would help ease the financial burden on poor and middle-class families.
Addressing the nation on the 80th Independence Day, Modi said coaching expenses had become a major burden for families, with many parents feeling compelled to send their children to coaching institutes.
“Coaching classes burden the poor and the middle class. We will provide free online coaching for various exams,” Modi said.
He said the initiative would enable families to save money spent on coaching while allowing students to remain closer to their parents and families during their preparation.
Modi said the government would leverage India’s digital public infrastructure, along with the country’s pool of talented teachers, to build a comprehensive online coaching network.
“We have digital public infrastructure; we have excellent talent and teachers. By bringing these resources together, we are going to build a complete network to provide free coaching to the youth of the country,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the initiative was aimed at making quality coaching more accessible to young people, irrespective of their financial background.
